About This Cause

Africa must generate research data that is relevant to its circumstances. However, for this to happen, Africans must be at the fore front of driving this research. Undoubtedly, some progress has been made over the last decade with Africa’s research output doubling from 1% to 2% of the world’s total output. However, given that the continent’s share of global population is 15%, a lot more still needs to be done. At APHRC, we remain uniquely driven by the ambition to improve the volume, relevance and quality of research in Africa by Africans that ultimately improves the wellbeing of Africans. The Center is led by Africans generating groundbreaking scientific evidence about the continent that gets translated into policy. Our research in education, health challenges and systems, population dynamics and reproductive health, and urbanization and wellbeing has proven invaluable in developing solutions to the massive health and educational issues posed by continuing high rates of population growth in many of the continent’s societies; Our two innovative capacity building programs have helped to develop the research skills of over 250 Doctorate students across the continent; and our policy engagement and communications division continues to engage policy makers with policy-relevant evidence for policy and programmatic action. Join APHRC in building and strengthening the capacity of African researchers under our Research Capacity Strengthening and support the Center in championing evidence based development decisions that will ensure the highest possible quality of life for the people of Africa. What can you do? You can provide core support to the Center that will allow its researchers to innovate even more and develop research programs and capacity strengthening initiatives that will cement the place of evidence in decision making in Africa
