About This Cause
The Little Sisters of the Poor are an international Roman Catholic Congregation of Religious women dedicated to the care of the aged poor regardless of ethnicity or religion. Founded in France in 1839 by Jeanne Jugan, the Sisters number nearly 3,000 and provide care for over 45,000 aged persons in 32 countries around the world. In the United States the Little Sisters operate 32 Homes for the aged in 23 states. Queen of Peace Residence was built in 1970 though its founding charter dates to 1869. The mission of the Little Sisters is centered on hospitality which is the heart and soul of their work; that is, to provide a home, in every sense of the word, to those elderly who are without resources as they enter the last years of their lives.
