Mission Statement
Our vision reflects the strong belief that a combination of comprehensive social services and continued community development is essential to properly address the multi-faceted problems of a low-income community. Thus, the agency's mission is to continually seek out and implement new and effective strategies to improve the community and provide the necessary resources to local residents so they may improve their present living conditions and work toward long-term self-sufficiency. RBSCC is committed to creating programs that offer a wide-range approach to assisting individuals and families achieve their goals.
About This Cause
Senior Programs RBSCC proudly operates nine senior centers. Although each of our centers has a distinct personality, all share a common mission: they seek to enhance the lives of senior citizens, aged 60 and over, through the provision of social services, advocacy, and activities to facilitate social interaction and companionship. Programs include: Falls prevention classes, ESL, Tai Chi, Yoga, Ballroom and Line Dancing, Diabetes and Cancer screening. Over 757,000 meals are served annually 1989 hours of care to clients assisting with non-medical services Over 900 people coming to our centers annually. Youth and Education The main objective of the Youth and Education programs is the improvement of the lives of community youth and adults through educational, employment, recreational and self-improvement activities, aimed at promoting the constructive use of young people's free time to enhance personal and academic growth. The range of programs at the Youth Center include: • After-School Programs • Career preparation • An employment program for high school students • A Girls' empowerment program • Off-site after-school programs • Substance abuse prevention • Theater group • Young adult immigrant literacy program Over 2700 youth attend the program annually 524 youth participate in summer camp RBSCC finds employment for 685 youth during the summer RBSCC sees an 80% in academic improvements in English and Math grades with our tutoring programs. Affordable Housing RBSCC has been responsible for the development of over 3,000 units of affordable housing, ranging from single-family homes to scattered site rehabs to large mixed use developments. Through various home ownership programs, RBSCC has been responsible for the sponsorship and marketing of over 1,200 units to first time homebuyers. With an even greater focus on rental opportunities, RBSCC currently manages over 1,800 affordable units that provide permanent housing for low- to moderate-income families and senior citizens, including a host of special needs populations like formerly homeless families, veterans, physically disabled, and victims of domestic violence. The Housing Department has also completed the gut rehabilitation of over 600 units in over 100 buildings scattered throughout the community. Additionally, RBSCC's premier project, the redevelopment of the former Rheingold Brewery site, resulted in almost 500 affordable home ownership and rentals units in addition to community facility and retail opportunities. Recognized throughout the city for excellence in design, the Rheingold Brewery redevelopment also received the Northeast Region Phoenix Award for Excellence in Brownfield Redevelopment from the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Buena Vida Continuing Care One of RBSCC's most triumphant accomplishments has been the construction and opening of a state-of-the-art facility for long-term and rehabilitative care, the Buena Vida Continuing Care and Rehabilitative Center. Opened in February 2001, Buena Vida is a 240-bed residential healthcare center providing long-term care and short-term rehabilitation. To ensure that our services remain in touch with the needs of the community, Buena Vida has active resident and family councils. Home Care Since 1979 RBSCHC has offered viable home care services for the elderly, frail and disabled community. Licensed by the New York State Department of Health, we provide various types of services, including: Nursing Personal Care Home Health Aide Homemaker and Housekeeping Services Our team is comprised of a highly trained and professional bi-lingual staff that shows passion toward those in need. RBSCHC's commitment to excellence begins with pre-hire screenings and background checks on all field workers and staff. Our homecare workers are certified and receive continual extensive training to assure that they provide the best quality of care in your home. Home visits are made by our Licensed Registered Nurses to assure the appropriate level of care, and for continual quality of service. Our Social Service and Intake Team are available to help you get started on a happy, independent and healthy journey with homecare.
