Mission Statement

To promote Unity Of Community through Communication, Programming and Dissemination of Information.

About This Cause

The Council of East Meadow Community Organizations (CEMCO) was formed 43 years ago as a non-partisan organization within the East Meadow School District boundaries that: 1. Provides a forum for the exchange of ideas for the betterment of the community; 2. Establishes an identity for the community; 3. Initiates programs encouraging harmony, unity and cohesion with the community; 4. Serves as a vehicle for the dissemination of information; 5. Organizes, promotes and participates in community support to establish facilities and programs for the improvement of the area and its residents. 6. Advocates for the environment with the establishment of the Bird Sanctuary as a major achievement. 7. Organizes community meetings on proposed developments. Membership in CEMCO consists of those organizations, corporations and associations within the East Meadow School District community: business, civic, educational, fraternal, social, religious, and veterans’ organizations. During its 43-year tenure, CEMCO has been instrumental in promoting the health and safety of the community through its involvement with the Town of Hempstead Solid Waste Advisory Committee, the Nassau County Jail Advisory Committee, and Nu-Health/Nassau University Medical Center. CEMCO sponsors CRIME WATCH, a crime prevention program. The program has existed for 31 years and continues to work closely with the 1st, 3rd, and 8th precincts and the Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Officers meeting regularly to discuss crime stats and resolution of community concerns. Reports are given at CEMCO monthly meetings by Project Director Norma Gonsalves. CEMCO has supported senior citizen housing developments as well as programs for the community's youth. CEMCO has worked with the Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of East Meadow in its efforts to promote beautification projects throughout the community. CEMCO continues to foster a sense of unity and the dissemination of information. When organizations come together for common purposes, the East Meadow community remains a better place in which to work and live. East Meadow is an unincorporated community that needs the coming together of organizations as a unifying force. “CEMCO, over the years, has provided that sense of unity,” said CEMCO President Joseph Parisi.
