About This Cause

Our Vision is to serve a diverse population of children in a spacious state of the art facility that is a nationally recognized early education institution highly regarded for academic excellence while fostering a sense of social competency, personal pride, self-esteem, and strong positive identity in our students individually and for the communities in which they live. As a young mother over 40 years ago, Fela Barclift known as "Mama Fela" wanted for her own children and the children of her local community an early childhood experience that valued both academic excellence and culturally responsive pedagogy equally. So out of one small room in her old brownstone, Little Sun People was born! Today, Little Sun People, Inc (LSP) Is a small but dynamic preschool that typically cares for 56 amazing children between the ages of 2-5 years of age in the heart of one of the most historic and famous neighborhoods in the country, Bed-Stuy Brooklyn! LSP has long been recognized as one of the best pre-schools in New York City and one of the very few that utilizes an African-centered curriculum that celebrates the Diaspora and its varied experiences around the world ---including right here in the U.S. Many studies (including a well-known study out of Harvard in 2017) conclude that instilling in children an informed, and sober perspective of race makes them more likely to experience increased academic success. Our graduates are sought after for admissions by all the best public and private elementary schools in New York City! We take great pride in our ability to offer our unique academic program to the children of Brooklyn and with your support all of New York City.
