About This Cause

Farms For City Kids is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit educational farm, located on 1,000 acres in Reading, VT. Since 1992 the Farm has given more than 16,000 culturally diverse underserved students, first hand experience of farming, nature and community, bringing classroom-sized groups of students and their teachers to stay and help run the Farm for five days and four nights. The Farm program for visiting urban schools serves more than 750 students from 40 schools each year. From the perspective of our students, the Farm is viewed as an extension beyond their classroom walls and a vital part of their curriculum . Classroom teachers value the Farm for engaging students in an authentic work experience in the natural world, one that supports and extends the academic subjects studied in their classrooms, such as: agriculture, biology, chemistry, language art, math, science, social studies and technology through vivid interdisciplinary learning. So different from their everyday lives our outdoor classroom makes an impression that will last a lifetime.
