Mission Statement
Long Island Volunteer Center (LIVC) is a nonprofit organization working to provide support to and promote and advocate for volunteer service on Long Island. The LIVC is the resource center for volunteerism and community service initiatives throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. Established in 1992, LIVC operates year round and collaborates with corporations and community organizations to address the needs of Long Islanders. A legacy Points of Light Volunteer Center since 1992, LIVC connects agencies seeking volunteers with individuals and groups looking for ways to serve their communities.
About This Cause
The Long Island Volunteer Center, an affiliate of Points of Light Global Network, is the regional resource center for volunteer engagement on Long Island. It links individuals and groups (schools, corporations, and service organizations) to over 450 nonprofits actively seeking volunteers to expand programs and services that serve the most vulnerable and at-risk particularly special needs, protect the environment, preserve cultural arts and antiquities, advance health and mental health objectives, prepare for and respond to disaster, and advocate for the most pressing needs of the community. LIVC advertises volunteer needs through the website (www.longislandvolunteercenter.org), quarterly published lists, and outreach at community events and volunteer fairs. LIVC expanded disaster services to support volunteer needs for Sandy relief and recovery by ramping up a Volunteer Recovery Center. Designated a New York State Regional Volunteer Center in September 2011 by the Governor's office, LIVC aims to raise the profile of volunteerism and increase the number of new volunteers.
