Mission Statement

PS 372, The Children’s School is NYC public elementary school that offers a nurturing educational environment to meet the diverse needs of District 15 and District 75 students at two sites, one in Gowanus and one in Fort Greene.

About This Cause

The Children’s School was founded in 1992 as a partnership between Community School District 15 and City-Wide Special Education District 75. The Children's School runs the only full inclusion elementary school in New York City and a 6:1:1 site in Fort Greene. Special education and general education students learn side by side throughout the school day from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade under the integrated co-teaching (ICT) model. We also educate students on the autism spectrum in their own classrooms from Kindergarten through Middle School. The school also strives for ethnic diversity that mirrors the larger communities from which it draws its 500+ students. This diversity enriches children, who learn to be tolerant and accepting of people's differences, whether educational or cultural. We believe that learning to function in heterogeneous communities is a central goal of schooling.
