About This Cause
The Catholic Foundation for Brooklyn and Queens (formerly known as the Alive in Hope Foundation) was incorporated in 1998 as a nonprofit organization serving the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn. The purpose of the foundation is to financially support the spiritual, educational and social needs of our Catholic Community through the procurement and building of endowment funds while practicing responsible Christian stewardship for the preservation and promotion of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn. Thanks to the generosity of donors to the original Alive in Hope Capital Campaign in 1996, $30 million was used to form eight core endowments as permanent funding sources for the ministries of the Church in Brooklyn and Queens. Since that time, over 90 other endowments have been added by individuals, just like you, who have wanted to leave a lasting gift to their church or a particular ministry to continue the work of Christ among us. With currently over $60 million under our supervision, the Catholic Foundation for Brooklyn and Queens awards over $2 million in grants annually. Just recently, our support has sent the largest group of youth from the United States to World Youth Day; we have helped build an Evangelization Center at the Church of St. Clement Pope in Jamaica and equipped the entire sixth grade at Our Lady’s Academy in South Ozone Park with iPads, replacing all paper text books, just to name a few accomplishments. Our grants support people and programs through direct and indirect services, while maintaining the principal amounts of your gifts in perpetuity. Our faith compels us to address the needs of other members of the Body of Christ: those who are in need of spiritual nourishment and guidance, who are alone or in pain, or who are in distress. By nourishing the ministries of our Diocese – our community of faith that reaches beyond the boundaries of any one parish – we share our faith with others and reach out to those in need. The goal of the Catholic Foundation for Brooklyn and Queens is to continue the redemptive work of Christ in our world. At the Catholic Foundation, we work with individuals to create giving plans that best serve both their charitable interests and their personal and financial circumstances. Gifts to the Catholic Foundation are invested in permanent endowment funds or expended immediately in support of a particular Ministry at the discretion of the Donor. The Endowments and Designated Funds are used to provide critical financial support for programs that address social, economic, educational and spiritual needs throughout the Diocese of Brooklyn. We thank you in advance for your continued support and generosity. Your investment in the ministries of the Diocese of Brooklyn is an investment in your faith and the faith of those who will one day call the Diocese of Brooklyn their spiritual home.
