About This Cause
Entering our fourth decade of service, RIVER FUND is a Poverty Frontline Center in New York City, dedicated to empowering those we serve to move beyond the lines of poverty. We understand that poverty is not a single issue but a complex web of challenges that, when combined, can overwhelm individuals and families. While we currently provide more than one million pounds of food monthly, we know that breaking the multigenerational cycle of poverty requires more than addressing immediate needs. Our comprehensive approach centers on three integrated channels, each designed to meet families where they are and create pathways toward long-term stability and success: 1. CRADLE TO COLLEGE Education is the most powerful tool to empower youth to overcome poverty. Our programs foster opportunities at every stage of life, reflecting the journey from infancy to higher education: - Baby Shower Program: Supporting 350+ moms-to-be annually with essentials and resources for a healthy start. - Child Poverty Awareness Day: Distributing 5,500+ backpacks, school supplies, clothing, and shoes to ensure children are prepared for success. - Mary C. Tiedemann Scholarship Fund: Providing access to higher education and mentorship through: • RIVER to SUCCESS | Mentoring • RIVER to SUCCESS | Tutoring - Holiday Programs: Creating joyful moments for families during Thanksgiving and Christmas. - Kids Worldwide: Helping children access learning opportunities that foster personal and academic growth through arts-focused educational programming, workshops, and mentorship. 2. BENEFITS ACCESS We provide essential support to help families overcome systemic barriers: - Assisting over 15,000 clients yearly with services such as: • SNAP enrollment • Immigration support • Domestic violence resources • Healthcare navigation 3. FOOD ACCESS We ensure families have reliable access to nutritious food to help meet their basic needs: - Distributing over 1,000,000 pounds of groceries monthly. - Serving approximately 3,500 households weekly. Our Mission To empower those we serve to move beyond the lines of poverty. Since 2014, our Family-by-Family Approach has guided our work, enabling us to create individualized pathways to stability. This approach inspired the establishment of the Mary C. Tiedemann Scholarship Fund, reinforcing our commitment to education as the cornerstone of transformation. Together with our supporters, RIVER FUND is transforming lives and creating a brighter future for generations to come.
