Mission Statement
For over 20 years, the Queens Nassau Comets (QNC) family has empowered student athletes, from all backgrounds, with the skills to succeed in life, on and off the field. QNC provides aspiring athletes with training, individualized lessons, academic support, mentorship, and exposure to competitive play. The commitment to the wellness of it’s players is highlighted by it’s direct access to licensed professionals in the mental health field when needed. Support extends beyond the athletes as QNC provides parents and caregivers with guidance, resources, and key networking opportunities to ensure families are equipped to navigate collegiate athletics and life after sports.
About This Cause
QNC’s ensures their student athletes with well-rounded success through their commitment to academics, mental health, competitive play and equity. Academics: Valuing academic excellence, QNC monitors every students’ grades and develop individualized academic plans accordingly. QNC provides study space, tutoring, and peer to peer support to support academic success. QNC also coordinates space to provide study hours for overnight travel games. Mental Health: QNC recognizes the vital role mental health plays on and off the field. QNC fosters a community of support to build students’ self esteem and self efficacy. It provides mental health resources and direct referrals. Additionally, QNC alumni serve as mentors to prepare the student athletes for the mental demands of college athletics. Competitive play: One of QNC’s core philosophies is playing against diverse competition. Over the years, their teams have traveled throughout the country to give it’s players the opportunity to compete and connect with peers at the various tournaments and showcases. QNC’s indoor year-round facility provides it’s members a place to learn, grow, and develop their skills. This is essential in the colder months when preparing for the upcoming season. With over 3,000 square footage of athletic turf and two batting cages, QNC will consistently host clinics, trainings, and private lessons. Equity: QNC centers diversity and equity in its all aspects of its work. QNC was founded out of need for more equity in high school athletics as many traveling athletic teams are often too expensive for low income students. The majority of QNC students wouldn’t otherwise have access to a year round facility, traveling team and all the advantages that comes with diverse play. QNC provides payment plans and scholarships to ensure that no student gets turned away due to finances. QNC also welcomes athletes of all levels and doesn’t turn away newcomers or “average” athletes, unlike other travel teams. QNC has an extensive network of college recruiters and established instructors to help it’s players on the path to success.
