Mission Statement
The mission of KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools is to equip students with the academic skills, scholarly habits, and character traits necessary to be successful in top quality colleges and the competitive world beyond.
About This Cause
KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools is a network of tuition-free public charter schools, open to all students, that offers a college-preparatory education in Atlanta’s educationally underserved communities. At KIPP, teachers, students, and families are all united around the same goal: college and a choice-filled life. Nationally, only eight percent of children from low-income families graduate from college, and there is a 20-point difference in high school graduation rates between these students and their more affluent peers. At KIPP, we reject the notion that demographics define destiny, and we are changing both academic opportunities and life outcomes by offering a high-quality, tuition-free, college-preparatory education to students residing in educationally underserved communities throughout Atlanta. Our students are representative of the communities we serve: 98% of our students are African American and the majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools has grown aggressively to meet the needs of Atlanta’s educationally underserved communities. In 2009, we operated two schools serving 640 students. Today we are operating ten schools that educate over 4,600 students in grades K-12. In addition, our KIPP Through College program extends support to over 800 college-aged alumni. As we enter our seventeenth year, we are very proud of our students’ achievements. At each grade level, our students are demonstrating levels of academic mastery much higher than their peers in traditional public schools. In addition, our high school has maintained a graduation rate above 90% for four years with over 80% of those graduates pursuing a post-secondary degree. Through our KIPP Through College program, we also continue to partner with and support our graduates up to six and half years after graduation as they navigate the academic, social, and financial challenges they may encounter while in college. We are proud to now be able to celebrate with dozens of our alumni who are pursuing graduate degrees and professional careers in areas such as finance, education, and medicine.
