Mission Statement
The Riverside Church in the City of New York seeks to be a community of faith. Its members are united in the worship of God known in Jesus, the Christ, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The mission of the Church is to serve God through word and witness; to treat all human beings as sisters and brothers; and to foster responsible stewardship of all God's creation.
About This Cause
The programs and ministries of Riverside serve more than 30,000 people every year and fall into four major areas: worship, education, parish life, and social justice. Within each area, Riverside offers a wide variety of ministries and programs for the church, community, and beyond that offer opportunities for faith formation and social justice engagement for adults, young adults, youth, and children. Riverside’s weekly worship service is held in the Nave and is a welcoming and inclusive space for all. It includes music, art, fellowship, and prophetic preaching. Through education, action, and public witness, Riverside advocates for the inclusion, equality, and thriving of the LGBTQ community, Black Lives Matter movement, issues of earth justice, incarceration reform, and many other actions as well. Riverside also serves as a community convening-space, where thousands of people take part weekly in art exhibits, tapings, shared meals, support groups, classes, and celebrations. Riverside's mission is to serve God through word and witness; to treat all human beings as sisters and brothers; and to foster responsible stewardship of all God’s creation. One way the church fulfills its mission is through providing social services to the church and surrounding community. Riverside’s Social Services serve thousands every year with fresh food, groceries, warm clothes, hot showers, job training, and safe places to rest.
