About This Cause
As both a learned society (member of the American Council of Learned Societies) and professional association, CAA (formerly the College Art Association) constitutes the most broadly representative nonprofit association for visual arts professionals in the United States. Founded in 1911, CAA is committed to the highest professional and ethical standards of scholarship, creativity, criticism, and teaching. Through its Annual Conference, publications, websites, and special events, it has been an avid advocate and resource for individuals and institutions in the fields of visual arts and art education for over a century. CAA provides numerous services to its members and to the arts community at large, facilitating exchange among artists, students, and art historians across institutional and national boundaries and communicates regularly with individuals and institutions through its publications, weekly newsletters, social media, websites, and public educational forums. In addition, CAA provides professional development and career services, conducts research in the field, and undertakes extensive advocacy efforts in the arts. The principal activities are: Annual Conference: held in New York every other year (most recently February 13–16, 2019). Over 5,000 artists and scholars attend during four days of presentations, panel discussions, workshops, special events, and exhibitions explore the study, practice, and history of art and visual culture. Publications: The Art Bulletin, Art Journal, caa.reviews, Art Journal Open, weekly email newsletters, and more. RAAMP (Resources for Academic Art Museum Professionals)— a web-based repository of resources for professionals at academic art museums.
