HAWTHORNE, New York, 10532-1362 United States

Mission Statement

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Dominican Sisters of St. Rose of Lima come together to assist one another in living an intense spiritual life while serving the needs of the poor with incurable cancer. The sisters seek to bring holiness to the world and to preach the Gospel through their life of prayer and their care of the destitute and the dying. They serve the patients with professional excellence, patient and loving attention, and acceptance and respect for who they are as individuals. The sisters strive to keep the patients comfortable and happy in their last days. In all things the sisters recognize life as a gift of God and endeavor to help those in their care to accept death with peace and hope.

About This Cause

The sisters care for persons with a diagnosis of incurable cancer who are unable to afford the care they need. No money is accepted from the patients or their families, from insurance, or from any government agency. The sisters prefer to rely upon the providence of God, which has never failed us. "We cannot cure our patients, but we can assure the dignity and value of their final days, and keep them comfortable and free of pain." Rose Hawthorne (Mother Mary Alphonsa, O.P.), Foundress A comprehensive list of services is offered. The sisters provide all the care for the women patients and are assisted by a staff of male nurses and nursing assistants with the men.
