Mission Statement
Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center is a non-profit, multi-service organization focusing primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers including our isolated and homebound elderly neighbors.
About This Cause
Throughout our 60-year history, we have sought to develop programs of quality and distinction in response to the evolving needs of the community we serve. Today, we are elevating the quality of life of our most vulnerable neighbors by strengthening and expanding programs that are innovative and inter-generational, leveraging our relationships with new and long-standing partners to maximize the impact of our work, and striving to create one Upper East Side where no neighbor is left behind. We operate at three locations – the Isaacs Center Senior Center and the Isaacs Center Youth Center at our primary location in the neighborhood of Yorkville, Manhattan, and the James Weldon Johnson Community Center in East Harlem. Each of these facilities is physically embedded within a NYCHA public housing development – and the Isaacs Center often serves as a “hub” of activity for children and their families, young adults, and seniors. Despite our Senior Center and Youth Center being located in one of the wealthiest zip codes in Manhattan, the average gross income for residents of the Isaacs/Holmes development is $23,513—below local ($31,039) and national ($24,949) poverty thresholds. The Isaacs Center's long term goal is fulfill its mission to support self-reliance and dignity “across generations” for the next 60 years.
