About This Cause
The Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers, Inc. (SEBNC) is a nonprofit organization serving the diverse communities of Bronx’s Community District 3, which includes Bathgate, Claremont, Crotona Park East, Melrose, Morrisania, and Woodstock. Since 1945, SEBNC has been committed to empowering residents, particularly in the Morrisania area, through a wide range of services designed to improve the quality of life for children and families. As one of New York City’s oldest African American-led human services organizations, SEBNC follows a "families first" philosophy, believing that stronger families create more secure and confident children. SEBNC works closely with families to assess needs and connect them with resources that support growth and development. Our services include: - Early Childhood Education: High-quality child care for 500 children, ages birth to 4 years, across three Bronx locations. We offer educational and recreational activities, along with family support services. - Developmental Disabilities Services: Programs providing respite, residential, day, and community habilitation services for children and adults with developmental disabilities. We focus on enhancing adaptive behavior to maximize participation in community activities. - Youth Division: Comprehensive programs for youth ages 5 to 21, including afterschool activities, career training, reading enrichment, sports, music, technology, volunteer opportunities, summer employment, and health education. - Night Center: Year-round, free exercise, fitness, and social activities for children and adults, with no admission fee. Programs include basketball, track, and intramural competitions. - Summer Camp: Over 20 years of free and low-cost summer camp for children ages 5 to 13, offering academic enrichment, sports, arts and crafts, field trips, and meals. - Employment and Training Services: Job readiness, training, and placement services for youth ages 14 to 24, including paid internships, workforce development, and life skills training. Additional support services include ESL classes, vocational programs, and advocacy. At SEBNC, all our locations work together to embody the spirit of the Head Start program, promoting mutual respect, self-worth, and nurturing relationships within the community.
