Mission Statement
The Bellevue Day Care Center (“BDCC”) is committed to providing high-quality programs within a safe, nurturing and supportive environment. It is dedicated to the achievement of developmental milestones in the cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth of Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers. The Bellevue Day Care Center’s tradition of close collaboration with Bellevue Hospital Center, along with City and State agencies, guides the center’s commitment to excellence in providing accessible and affordable education to children of the employees of Bellevue Hospital, the neighboring community, and families in the City of New York.
About This Cause
Bellevue Day Care Center (BDCC) has provided high-quality and affordable Early Childhood Education and Care to the employees of Bellevue Hospital Center as well as families who work and/or live in the surrounding community since 1971. The present site includes 3 classrooms serving Infant, Toddler, and Preschool (3K & UPK). Our license capacity is 41 children. This year, we plan to expand our program by adding an additional classroom which would allow us to serve more 3-year-old children and move our UPK program (4-year-old children) into a separate classroom. With almost 50 years of experience, BDCC now serves a second generation of families (former students who now have their children enrolled). Many of our new families are referred by those who have previously or presently attend. Additionally, our program benefits the community by hiring individuals who live in the community and family members of enrolled children. BDCC also serves as a work/internship site for students from local colleges and medical centers (Baruch College, School of Visual Arts, NYU, and Bellevue Hospital). BDCC implements the High/Scope Educational Approach which is a comprehensive, research, and evidence-based educational curriculum. The staff are trained in the curriculum as part of their professional development. High/Scope is best described as Active Learning. Using this child-centered approach, children are encouraged to learn by incorporating their senses and through interactions with each other and the teachers, in other words, “actively”. BDCC supports the growth and development of children by preparing them for school and acts as a resource for families by sharing information and assisting families with; childcare subsidy, early intervention, health care, nutrition, access to recreational/cultural sites and events, and information about kindergarten options including; private, parochial schools, talented, and gifted programs. Parents are welcome and encouraged to participate in all aspects of the program including, but not limited to; volunteering, serving as a Parent Association officer, or a Board member. We value parent participation because by sharing their talents, skills, resources, and culture, they offer enrichment to the program. BDCC represents diversity on both cultural and socioeconomic levels including families and staff thereby creating an environment where staff, families, and children have the opportunity to expand their range of knowledge on multiple levels.
