Mission Statement

My Sisters’ Place strives to engage each member of society in our work to end domestic violence, so that all relationships can embrace the principles of respect, equality, and peacefulness. We advance this mission with direct services, advocacy and community education. Through direct services, we support victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and human trafficking, primarily women and their children, in seeking safety, self-determination, and justice. Through advocacy, we act as a force for social change in law and public policy. Through community education, we challenge public perceptions of intimate violence and the social inequities that give rise to it, and we promote prevention with a special emphasis on youth.

About This Cause

For more than 37 years, My Sisters’ Place (MSP) has worked to end violence in intimate relationships and combat the effects of domestic violence on women and children throughout Westchester County. MSP has evolved from a grassroots task force and drop-in center into a cutting edge leader and resource in the field of domestic violence advocacy, shelter and legal services and education and prevention. Based on the tenet of taking a holistic approach and addressing the root causes of family violence, MSP is continually expanding in order to effectively respond to the increasing and changing needs of individuals in crisis. MSP’s mission is to engage each member of society in our work to end domestic violence, so that all relationships can embrace the principles of respect, equality, and peacefulness. 2012 agency highlights •MSP’s Legal Center assisted more than 1,000 women with legal brief services, advice and representation related to orders of protection, child support and custody and immigration. •MSP’s emergency hotline answered over 3,000 calls. •MSP’s Domestic Violence Education and Prevention program reached over 5,700 teens throughout the county with community outreach and work in the schools addressing healthy relationships and teen dating violence. •MSP’s counseling programs supported over a 1,600 women through individual and group support. •MSP’s children’s services supported over 2,000 children through individual and group support and art therapy programs. •MSP’s emergency shelter provided housing for nearly 200 women and children. •MSP’s programs provided support and services to 90 victims of human trafficking. MSP receives 57% of its operating budget from private, corporate and government grants. These grants range from modest amounts that small community groups are able to give to the larger grants we receive from federal agencies, private and corporate foundations. We continue to seek new funding streams in the form of grants, donations, sponsorships, bequests, planned gifts and employee giving. My Sisters’ Place is committed to working with the community to change the perceptions of domestic violence and human trafficking. Activism is a key component to achieve this goal and to ensure healthy relationships for all.
