Mission Statement
Located in the Northeast Bronx, Mind-Builders Creative Arts Center was founded in 1978 with a mission to inspire the growth of youth, families, and the community through quality arts education.
About This Cause
Mind-Builders' programs bring together best practices in arts education, youth development and community engagement/enhancement in the belief that a healthy community is a vital ingredient in the healthy development of a child, and that the skills required to pursue excellence in the arts can help children achieve success in school and in life. Each year Mind-Builders offers over 200 classes for 750+ students, ages 3 to adult, providing instruction in more than 20 forms of music and dance. We also offer three popular ongoing programs: PYT theater, in which teens learn the craft and are mentored toward a professional career; a Community Folk Culture research program, in which students interview artists/artisans and work with local libraries, museums and heritage groups; and an intergenerational Stage Band, in which children, parents and grandparents play and perform together. We produce close to thirty free or low cost arts presentations, attended by several thousand community members. Aside from our arts and culture programming, we offer a Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program, and a café that features students' performances. Classes and programs are led by working artists focused on artistic excellence and skill-building within a value system of personal responsibility, tolerance, community service and peer leadership.
