Bond Street Theatre’s mission is to promote peace and mutual understanding through the arts. The company initiates creative programming for conflict resolution and peacebuilding that reach women, youth, children, educators, refugees, those in prisons and shelters, and other populations in need.
About This Cause
Founded in 1976, Bond Street Theatre initiates creative programming that inspires and educates youth, addresses human rights issues, provides tools for healing communities affected by conflict, and promotes the value of the arts in shaping a peaceful future. The company responds to humanitarian crises through the uplifting powers of the arts, and has initiated innovative theatre and theatre-based programs in over 50 countries worldwide, reaching populations in refugee camps, schools, shelters, prisons, rural villages and urban centers. Current focus areas include: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Malaysia, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Lebanon, Haiti, Guatemala, and elsewhere. Bond Street Theatre creates performances and performance projects that illustrate important social issues, and uses the arts to educate, inspire, and heal in areas of conflict, poverty and post-war rehabilitation. The company collaborates with local artists to enjoy the benefits of artistic exchange -- to learn, to share, and to explore commonalities and differences, and promote mutual understanding and the value of the arts in shaping a peaceful global future. The company's innovative theatre and theatre-based programs improve leadership skills, build self-confidence, stimulate the imagination, and illustrate health and civic issues to populations of all ages and genders. Donations to Bond Street Theatre are well-spent: more than 80% of all funds go directly to our programs. Bond Street Theatre is the recipient of a MacArthur Award for its innovative cultural programming. The company has a 5-star rating on Guidestar, Top-Rated by Great NonProfits, received awards and kudos from publications around the world, including the New York Times, India Times, CNN, Washington Post, Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, and other media.
