Mission Statement
The American Institute for Mental Imagery (AIMI) is post-graduate training center for licensed mental healthcare practitioners as well as other healthcare providers. Premised in the intrinsic connection between mind, body and spirit, we provide a new perspective on the roots of health and illness. Students learn an integrative healthcare model that includes such techniques as mental imagery and cognitive techniques of will to restore wholeness and health. AIMI also offers an extensive array of classes to the general public on becoming an active participant in maintaining one's health and wellbeing. AIMI funds research and publications. Gerald Epstein, M.D., founder and director of AIMI, apprenticed with the late psychologist and healer, Colette Aboulker-Muscat. AIMI has been chartered by the NYS Board of Regents since 1982.
About This Cause
The initials AIMI are not only an acronym oft he Institute's name, they are also an associative pun that reflect the deepest ideals and values of the Institute's work. From the French, ami is friend, aime is love, and ame is soul. In English, aim means to point in a direction, to intend. In the Western Hermetic tradition, aim refers to concentration without effort and non-attachment to outcomes. AIMI has always defined its mission to be of service to the world, in several ways: (1) as a training center for all healthcare professionals to obtain post-graduate certificate training in a spiritually based therapeutic/healing modality, provided at a low cost, so as not to place an undue burden on the trainee; (2) as a low-cost education center, to provide service to the community at large, to broaden and deepen knowledge and understanding of health, healing, spirituality, relationships, and life's purpose. In sum, the overall mission of the Institute is to bring life to life, to perform a service to our world by helping to bring into it a therapeutic healing effect on its suffering. Today, the moment has arrived to bring this mission to deeper fulfillment. There is a new climate of openness in our nation, a new receptivity, allowing for the delivery and acceptance of AIMI'S work and values. AIMI does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, color, religion, creed, sex, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, marital status, changes in marital status, pregnancy, parenthood, sexual orientation, gender identity or veteran status.
