Mission Statement
Envisioning Access, originally Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers, was founded to raise/train capuchin monkeys to provide in‐home assistance to people with mobility issues. We have transitioned from a service animal model to establishing an Innovative Technology Initiative & are building pilot projects that involve our recipients, who are expertly advising companies/researchers developing technologies as real‐world solutions that provide access to employment, educational, health, & socialization opportunities for people living with disabilities. We’re also providing a safe, healthy, & fulfilling environment for all our post-service monkeys for the rest of their lives.
About This Cause
Envisioning Access, formerly Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers, was founded in 1979 to raise and train capuchin monkeys to provide daily assistance to people living with mobility impairments. For more than 40 years, we have supported our service monkeys and their human partners during their many years together through interactive mentoring, and close supervision of each monkey’s behavioral, nutritional, and veterinary needs. Relying on contributions, we have provided these uniquely trained animals and support free of charge to our recipients. In 2021 we made the difficult decision to cease our training/placement services. Our commitment to every animal in our program is of critical importance and we will continue to support our current recipients, special care homes, and post-service monkeys. We will use our vast knowledge to transition to an organization providing global insight into the human-animal bond. We are looking to take all of our experience, intellectual property, and the insights we have gained in service to the disability community through our monkey helpers and offer it in collaboration with robotic, AR, VR, and AI research organizations, firms, and service providers.
