Mission Statement
The Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA) is the only non-profit charitable organization dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare and lives of people living with interstitial cystitis (IC).
About This Cause
The Interstitial Cystitis Association is the first and only non-profit health organization dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare and the quality of life for people living with interstitial cystitis (IC). ICA provides advocacy, awareness, and evidence-based education for patients, healthcare providers, and patient supporters to ensure early diagnosis and optimal care with dignity for people affected by IC. 88% of every dollar received by ICA goes into direct services, benefiting IC patients and working towards fulfilling the organization’s mission. IC is a chronic bladder condition with no cure that usually consists of multiple symptoms. Most IC patients experience recurring and often severe pelvic pain, pressure, or discomfort in the bladder or pelvic region; a need to urinate more often than normal, for some as many as 60 times per day and throughout the night (frequency); and, a persistent, intense, and painful urge to urinate (urgency). These chronic symptoms profoundly impact the patient's emotional, psychological, and social well-being as well as their quality of life. IC may also be referred to as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), bladder pain syndrome (BPS), and chronic pelvic pain.
