Mission Statement
The mission of Feeding Westchester is to lead, engage and educate the Westchester County community in creating a hunger-free environment. Feeding Westchester is the core of the county's emergency food distribution network. It acquires food through purchase and donation, repacks that food into smaller quantities, then distributes the food to 265 frontline hunger-relief programs, including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and senior, childcare and treatment centers. The goal of Feeding Westchester is to alleviate local hunger and advocate for the estimated 200,000 county residents who are hungry of at risk of hunger.
About This Cause
Feeding Westchester estimates that 200,000 PEOPLE IN THE COUNTY ARE HUNGRY or at risk of hunger. (That is 1 in 5 residents) - 33 % OF THEM ARE CHILDREN, That is 66,000 children; 22% OF THEM ARE SENIORS OVER THE AGE OF 60, Many are living on fixed incomes. And as our population gets grayer, we will see the numbers of hard to reach “seniors in need” increase. And the need is growing! For every $1 that is donated, we can buy $4 worth of food for our hungry neighbors. Last year, Feeding Westchester distributed 7.2 million pounds of food and 6 million meals to those hungry or at risk of hunger. We do this through our member agencies.
