Covenant House provides food, shelter, immediate crisis care, and other important services to homeless youth from 18-21.
About This Cause
As the largest privately funded agency in the Americas offering free help to homeless kids, Covenant House provides 24/7 crisis care and on-going support for kids and teenagers in need of a safe place to go. One of the guiding principles of Covenant House’s Mission is “to serve suffering children of the street, and to protect and safeguard all children”. Born out of this Mission is our Vision of advocating with and on behalf of runaway, homeless and at-risk youth to end their suffering, and to raise awareness in our society of their plight. In 1989, Covenant House began its work in New Jersey by providing basic services to to homeless youth on the streets of Newark and Atlantic City. Outreach staff traveled in vans to these areas offering food, clothing, counseling and referrals for shelter. The following year storefront operations began, and by 1992, the Community Service Centers most people recognize were opened in both Newark and Atlantic City. Today, CHNJ operates 8 buildings throughout New Jersey providing 24/7 care for homeless youth. CHNJ has served more than 20,000 young people over the last 25 years!
