Mission Statement

Alliance for Positive Change is a leading multiservice organization that provides low-income New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic conditions with access to quality health care, housing, harm reduction, coaching, peer services, and more. We annually serve 5,000+ low-income New Yorkers. Our mission is to help low-income New Yorkers make lasting, positive changes toward health, housing, recovery, and self-sufficiency as they navigate life with HIV and other chronic conditions.

About This Cause

Alliance opened in 1991, at the height of the HIV crisis—a welcoming community of transformation and opportunity. Today, we deliver on the promise of positive change with services and resources that equip people to navigate systemic inequities and achieve health and well-being. Alliance is a women-led organization that has brought HIV/HCV prevention and services, health care access, harm reduction, recovery support, and other services to tens of thousands of people in historically under-resourced communities over more than three decades. Our work addresses urgent issues: the opioid overdose crisis…a dangerously inequitable, under-resourced healthcare system…hunger, housing insecurity, and lack of economic opportunity. Alliance delivers services at our headquarters in Midtown Manhattan, and our community-based sites in low-income communities of color: CASA Washington Heights; Keith Haring Harlem Center; LES Harm Reduction Center (Lower East Side); and Luis and Lillian Outreach Center (East Village). Alliance also operates Pelham Grand Supportive Housing—a 90-unit housing facility for people with chronic conditions. Beyond all this, we engage thousands of New Yorkers in their own communities through our Alliance on the Move mobile van, street outreach, and community partnerships. Our programs include: • Peer training, Peer internships and Peer-delivered services that amplify our reach and provide economic mobility opportunities • HIV, hepatitis C, and STI counseling, testing, and referral • Care coordination, including expedited linkages to medical care • Treatment Adherence Program, including a Pharmacy Access Center, for people living with HIV and/or HCV • Full-spectrum harm reduction services and opioid overdose prevention (including safe syringe services) • Outpatient drug treatment and recovery support • Mental health services • Supportive housing and housing placement • Basic needs programming, including our Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) program (food pantry, meals, nutritional counseling) and a clothing bank • Public benefits and health insurance enrollment.
