JEWS FOR RACIAL AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE

Brooklyn, New York, 11205 United States

Mission Statement

For 29 years, Jews For Racial & Economic Justice (JFREJ) has pursued racial and economic justice in New York City by advancing systemic changes that result in concrete improvements in people’s everyday lives. We are inspired by Jewish tradition to fight for a sustainable world with an equitable distribution of economic and cultural resources and political power. The movement to dismantle racism and economic exploitation will be led by those most directly targeted by oppression. We believe that Jews have a vital role to play in this movement. The future we hope for depends on Jews forging deep and lasting ties with our partners in struggle.

About This Cause

What began in 1990 as a small group of progressive Jewish New Yorkers has grown into one of the strongest and most effective grassroots organizations in the country. In long-term partnership with organizations representing the city’s most marginalized communities, JFREJ has helped win union contracts and back pay for low-wage workers, countered the rising tide of Islamophobia, and secured legislative and popular support for police reform. We work at the intersections of policy change and culture shift, recognizing that multiple, nimble, creative, and overlapping strategies are necessary to transform our city and country. Currently, we have campaigns and programs that reflect a number of priorities and the need to address multiple axes of oppression.
