Mission Statement

NYLCVEF’s mission is to educate, engage and empower New Yorkers to be effective advocates on behalf of the environment — from clean energy and funding for parks, to solid waste and green buildings.

About This Cause

The New York League of Conservation Voters, founded in 1989, realized the public-at-large needed a greater understanding of environmental issues and founded the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF) in 1993. NYLCVEF’s mission is to educate, engage and empower New Yorkers to be effective advocates on behalf of the environment — from clean energy and funding for parks, to solid waste and green buildings. First, we educate New Yorkers about environmental issues and the environmental decision-making processes at the local, regional, state and federal government levels. Second, we engage all sectors – elected officials, policymakers, businesses, community groups and grassroots citizens – in open, non-partisan discussion about sustainability policies in order to achieve the environmental breakthroughs that New York needs. Third, and perhaps most importantly, we empower New Yorkers to make environmental change by engaging them in the civic process. That includes voter registration, helping residents make their voices heard on environmental issues, and connecting New Yorkers with candidates, elected officials and policy makers. NYLCVEF is also a member of EarthShare New York, a federation of America’s most respected environmental and conservation organizations.
