Mission Statement
Emerging Artists Theatre acts as a creative incubator for new voices from the page to the stage. It begins with the artist’s idea, and then gives the artists the resources and freedom to follow the evolution of that idea. Most of the programming has been born from suggestions and needs of the artists themselves. And that provides a platform for groundbreaking and cutting edge developmental arenas, where the artists are free to explore the diverse creative sides of their minds. Emerging Artists was honored for this innovative approach with being named the Best Theatre Company for Actors to Work with in New York City by Backstage magazine. Emerging Artists was the first company in NYC to begin programming for developing solo works for both female and male performers and for full length musicals in our New Works Series. Dance was added recently to give choreographers a chance to put works in progress before an audience and asks the audience specific questions to evolve their work.
About This Cause
Emerging Artists also has a great reputation for its Off Broadway premieres that have garnered a Drama Desk nomination, the American Theatre Wing’s award for Sustained Excellence in Theatre and Top 10 Critics Picks from both the New York Times and the New York Post. EAT believes that since it is the artists work, it should remain in the artists control. Through different and exciting interactions with audiences, EAT helps to guide this interaction to be the most beneficial to the artist and their idea. And most importantly, Emerging Artists provides the necessary backdrop of resources so that there is no cost to the artists involved and does not believe in charging artists. This factor alone makes Emerging Artists unique and a true refuge for the underserved artist who does not have the means to develop their work. And EAT is proud to have given that opportunity to over 3000 artists since its inception.
