Mission Statement
Right To Play is a global organization that protects, educates, and empowers children to rise above adversity using the power of play. We reach millions of children each year in some of the most difficult places on earth, helping them to stay in school and graduate, resist exploitation, overcome prejudice, prevent disease, and heal from the trauma of war. We do this by harnessing play, one of the most fundamental forces in a child's life, to teach children the critical skills they need to dismantle barriers and embrace opportunities, in learning and in life.
About This Cause
For more 25 years, we have been one of the only global development organizations focused exclusively on using the power of play to transform children’s lives. Play is how children understand the world, how they articulate their hopes and dreams, how they learn to communicate and interact with others, and how they develop and grow into adulthood. Play comes naturally to every child – but not all children have equal opportunities to play. A lack of safe spaces and time to play and a perception by parents, caregivers, and teachers that play is not important means that many children don’t experience the wonder and opportunity play brings. As more and more children grapple with conflict, crisis, and learning loss, the need to protect play is more urgent than ever. Twenty-five years of experience has shown us that play is one of the most effective ways children learn, heal from trauma, and build skills to meet life’s challenges. We reach millions of children each year in 15 countries around the world. By collaborating with teachers, governments, communities, and parents, we help children unlock their potential, enabling them to make positive and healthy choices and to create better futures for themselves, their families, and their societies.
