Mission Statement
Brazil Child Health/Instituto Dara is a civil society organization that works to promote health and human development by implementing and fostering an integrated approach to fight poverty. A world pioneer in intersectoral work with social determinants of health, it was founded by Dr. Vera Cordeiro, in 1991, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For the 8th consecutive year, it has been ranked best NGO in Latin America and 21st in the world according to the Swiss publication NGO Advisor. Throughout their history, the organization has received many awards and been acknowledged by their work which has directly impacted the lives of more than 75 thousand socially vulnerable people in Brazil. And, indirectly, social entrepreneurs learned the DNA of the methodology and have implemented the work on four continents, contributing to the transformation on the lives of thousands of people.
About This Cause
The work of Brazil Child Health/Instituto Dara consists on 4 pillars: 1) direct assistance of families in social vulnerability through the Plano de Ação Familiar (PAF - Family Action Plan); 2) influencing integrated multisectoral public policies; 3) producing and dissemination of knowledge related to health and human development issues; 4) social mobilization. We aim at changing the paradigm of health and human development in society, incorporating an integrated multisectoral approach to fight poverty. Saúde Criança’s work is based on a Family Action Plan (PAF), a set of actions with goals and deadlines unique to each family assisted. The PAF is developed by a multidisciplinary team of social workers, nutritionists, psychologists, psychiatrists and lawyers, amongst others, with the collaboration of the family. + We aim at changing the paradigm of health and human development in society, incorporating an integrated multisectoral approach to fight poverty. - Every family is assisted individually, according to their needs and potentials, during a period of approximately two years. The family’s progress is tracked in regular meetings with the Saúde Criança team with the objective of helping the family achieve dignity and autonomy. Our Impact: 75,000 People directly assisted 24 Organizations in Brazil were inspired City public policy enforced in Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais, the third largest capital city in Brazil 1,600 volunteers throughout our history 151 lectures in 16 countries 10 chapters about our work published in several books about social entrepreneurship Social entrepreneurs inspired by the work are using the DNA of our social technology in 4 continents
