Mission Statement
NPower creates pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for military veterans and young adults from underserved communities. NPower envisions a future where our domestic technology workforce is diverse, and clear pathways exist for all people regardless of ethnicity, gender, or socio-economic background to succeed in our digital economy. NPower currently operates in New York, Texas, California, Maryland, Toronto, New Jersey, Missouri, and Michigan.
About This Cause
What We Do NPower provides tuition free technology training to military veterans and young adults (ages 18-26) most in need of job opportunities. NPower’s multi-tiered technology training programs change the lives of our students and alumni, the vast majority of whom come to us with minimal resources and limited opportunities. Tech is increasingly becoming a space where those from diverse backgrounds can thrive by launching careers that open doors to leadership roles, income growth, wealth creation, and confidence, giving them a collective voice and platform to wield influence, whether that be in their local communities, in their children’s schools, with policy makers or within their companies. Numerous Fortune 500 companies have eliminated the degree requirement for tech roles and value industry-recognized credentials and certifications as evidence of applicant skills and competencies. Unfortunately, underserved communities are too often trapped in generational poverty with inadequate access to the services and support that can lift families out of their situation. Social capital and the professional networks that promote connections to tech career opportunities are almost invisible. Our foundational program, Tech Fundamentals combines hands-on classroom curriculum, 7 weeks of a tech-based paid internship, and over 120 hours of professional power skills development. The rigorous curriculum is anchored to the industry-recognized CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ certification plus additional optional certifications such as CompTIA A+ (all exams paid by NPower). Our programs include social support wrap-around services, professional development and engagement with corporate volunteers to round out the technical training. Graduates of our Tech Fundamentals program are then eligible to participate in advanced training programs, Cybersecurity and Cloud to accelerate their career trajectory. Empowering individuals with in-demand skills and equalized opportunities transforms lives and creates systematic change in our most marginalized communities. Moving just one person from unemployment or a low-income job to a successful career in technology can break the cycle of poverty for an entire family.
