Mission Statement
World of Women is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of Staten Island women and children
About This Cause
World of Women was established in 1995 as a local non profit organization dedicated to the mission of creating and supporting programs to improve the status of women and children on Staten Island through our Advocacy Community Service, Family Assistance, Scholarship and Domestic Violence Prevention Programs. WOW is an organization dedicated to improving and advancing the needs of women and children regardless of their backgrounds or beliefs, bringing about a better community for all. WOW celebrates Mothers Day with an annual party for residents of a local nursing home. Our annual Holiday party provides food, fun and gifts to 200 children in need and their families. We donate $5000 in scholarships yearly, both to graduating high school seniors and women returning to school. We have partnered with the Staten Island Office of the Public Advocate to provide a dignified burial in a marked grave on Staten Island for all Staten Island unclaimed still-born babies. We provide a Self-Esteem workshop for 6th grade girls at PS 48. Our Family Assistance Program offers temporary relief of food, shelter and financial assistance in emergency situations. We support children of women deployed in the military. We have developed programs and sponsored events for agencies such as SI Advocacy Center, Safe Horizon, Seaman's Society, Rainbow's Hope, Guyon Rescue support for Hurricane Sandy Victims, Hurricane Katrina victims, Amethyst House, Project Hospitality, The Beacon Center, Battered Women's Shelter, Victims of Domestic Violence, Fearless Females, Project Homefront, The V-Day Campaign, Take Back the Night, Crime Victims Vigil, and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. We most recently participated in Staten Island Sisterhood Career Day, in which over 1000 high school students participated.
