Mission Statement
Everyday Miracles is a Minneapolis-based community non-profit organization that provides pregnancy-related services and doula support to expectant mothers with the goal of improving birth outcomes. Our Mission: To improve birth outcomes by supporting and empowering mothers during their pregnancy and birthing experience. Our History: Everyday Miracles was founded in June 2003 by Debby Prudhomme and Mary Williams, strong advocates for pregnant women in the Twin Cities and Duluth communities. In 2009 they opened the Everyday Miracles Pregnancy Center in Northeast Minneapolis. We provide childbirth education classes in three languages, mother support groups, prenatal yoga, and access to car seats and breast pumps for women insured by state-funded insurance.
About This Cause
We believe that every woman has a right to evidenced-based prenatal care regardless of age, race or socioeconomic status. Every woman deserves to be supported and celebrated during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Our organization is led by women and 100% of our employees are women. Since 2003, Everyday Miracles has served over 3,000 women. Compared to the 2010 national cesarean rate of 32.8%, our current cesarean rate is significantly lower (17%). Our current breastfeeding initiation rate is 98%, compared to a national average of about 75% and 72% of our mothers continue breastfeeding after 6 months, compared to a 43% national average. Study after study has proven that low income women who get support from a doula during the pregnancy end up with fewer dangerous and costly birth complications. Doulas are trained professionals who provide support before during and after a birth. A recent study done by the University of Minnesota using Everyday Miracles data found women who had doula care lowered their odds of a preterm birth by 22 percent. It also lowered their chance of having a cesarean birth by 56 percent. The study states that by cutting down on premature births and cesarean sections for low income women, doulas are saving taxpayers millions of dollars. The program works with many women who don't have any family or community support during their pregnancies. Everyday Miracles provides doulas from many ethnic backgrounds and over ten languages are spoken allowing us to serve families who may be new to this country. The program is adding additional services in 2016 including a drop in lactation clinic to assist women with any breastfeeding issues they may be experiencing.
