Staten Island was hard hit by Hurricane Sandy and has had a long road to recovery after the traumatic experience of the worst storm in a century. We were at the forefront immediately after the storm, proving much needed support and trauma related help. And, we have continued to be in the community, working with individuals and families, in homes and schools, helping children and adults mange symptoms of Post traumatic Stress (PTSD). We have an extremely active and dedicated Board of Directors -- doctors, business owners, accountants bankers, teachers, community residents, service recipients, etc. -- many of whom have served on the Board for more than 20 years. Our 250 Reading Volunteers help 600 elementary school children throughout the borough of Staten Island hone their reading skills as they develop confidence and self-esteem.
