About This Cause

The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund 620 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY 10018-1405 (212) 556-1137 For over 100 years, The New York Times has asked readers for contributions to the Neediest Cases Fund, to give direct assistance to troubled children, families and elders. Over the years the Fund has raised over $275 million for people in unusual distress in the New York City metropolitan area. The annual campaign begins each November and continues until the following February, during which time The Times publishes daily stories of the help given people in need. This assistance is rendered by seven large multi-service agencies that serve New Yorkers of all denominations in the metropolitan area. The New York Times Company pays for all administrative costs of the Neediest Cases Fund so that every gift goes directly to serve the poor and the Company audits the work of the agencies accordingly. As a way to protect the next generation while serving this one, the Fund invests unrestricted gifts of $100,000 or more from trusts or estates in an endowment. The income goes directly into the next year’s campaign.
