Mission Statement

The mission statement of Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers is “to practice and teach the ancient yogic knowledge for health, peace, Unity in Diversity and Self Realization”

About This Cause

Our ashrams operate like a monastery, where people come to experience retreat with the daily discipline of waking up early (6am-7:30am meditation and second meditation at 8pm-9:30pm are mandatory). There are 2 vegetarian meals served daily, voluntary community service of one hour a day, plus 2 Yoga exercise classes per day. There are daily workshops on health, peace, Yoga and meditation. Guests can stay from 3 days to one month or more. We also offer residential programs for people to immerse themselves in the healthy yoga lifestyle. A SYVC Center is a place where people come, take different classes on Yoga and Meditation and go back home without staying overnight. Ashrams are in the countryside, in nature and Centers are in the Cities. Training courses: The organization to-date has trained 48,000 Yoga teachers in its month long residential Yoga Teachers Training course (TTC), as well as 6,000 in its Advanced Teachers Training course (ATTC) . There are many other courses offered in classical Yoga. Our goal is to make the healing, yoga practice and philosophy available to everyone. We have teachers world-wide, constantly reaching out to new communities often times free of charge or for discounted prices. One example is our Yoga Prison Programs offering free yoga instruction books and teaching in prisons in the state of New York.
