Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a clean, comfortable safe haven for lost, abandoned, unwanted, abused and neglected animals, and sick, orphaned or injured wildlife and to properly care for them with medical attention to the injured and ill, until these animals are re-united with their families, adopted, transferred to licensed wildlife rehabilitators or appropriately released. To assist local, county and state law enforcement agencies, and other animal agencies as needed, in the alleviation and investigation of suspected animal abuse Advocate responsible pet ownership with each adoption, redemption and through media (radio, cable, shelter tours, etc) and social media and by hosting low cost rabies clinics and spay/neuter clinics for the community To adopt dogs, cats, rabbits, goats that are spayed/neutered ( unless a licensed veterinarian advises against for medical reasons or age), appropriately vaccinate, test for heartworm in dogs and Feline Leukemia and Feline Infectious Virus in cats; to adopt other homeless companion animals including hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, chinchillas, birds, goats, etc. To have any unmanageable, un-rehabilitatable (unsafe) and un-treatable animals beyond professional medical intervention, be humanely euthanized by a licensed veterinarian.

About This Cause

Warwick Valley Humane Society is a 501© 3 not for profit membership corporation in New York State incorporated on May 20, 1954. We have managed the Warwick Animal Shelter since October 16, 1968. We service the three Towns of Warwick, Chester and Tuxedo with a total population of approximately 46,839. The Town of Warwick is the second largest geographic township in New York State and has a total area of 104.9 square miles. We provide 24 hour service of animal control to both Warwick and Chester. Our shelter cares for dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pocket pets as well as various farm animals ie. pigs, goats, roosters, chickens, ducks etc. as needed. We rescue injured and ill wildlife and transport them to a NYS licensed wildlife rehabilitator and/or veterinary hospital. Our Society is governed by an all volunteer Board of Directors who fundraise, host and attend awareness campaigns, assist the shelter staff and do emergency shelter repairs.
