About This Cause

The Association for Rollinsford Culture and History ARCH was founded in 2003 in order to preserve and maintain Rollinsford NH's Colonel Paul Wentworth House as an educational and cultural center. In addition to fundraising and overseeing the maintenance of the Wentworth House, the board of directors plans educational opportunities for the public, including exhibits, demonstrations, programs for public and homeschooled students, and living history events throughout the year. ARCH membership is open to all. The Col. Paul Wentworth house was built in Rollinsford about 1701 and saw the birth of the country. It was kept as a family home until 1936 when it was disassembled and moved to Dover, MA. During the disassembly it was professionally documented with photographs and architectectural drawings under the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), the nation's first federal preservation program. Wentworth descendants continued to live in the house on the banks of the Charles river until 2000 when it was sold. Meant to be demolished, a Dover, MA historical group contacted Rollinsford to see if it could be saved by moving it home. ARCH was formed and spearheaded the fundraising and logistics to disassemble the house again and move it back to Rollinsford where it was rebuild within sight of its former foundation and opened to the public in 2005. ARCH is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization.
