Project Details

arXiv.org is widely acknowledged as one of the most successful open access digital archives. Since its inception in 1991 with a focus on the high energy physics community, arXiv has significantly expanded both its subject coverage and user base to mathematics, computer science, quantitative biology, quantitative finance, statistics, electrical engineering, and economics. For many researchers worldwide, arXiv is an essential component of scientific communication, necessary to rapidly and widely disseminate their findings, establish priority of their discoveries, and seek feedback to help improve their work. Access via arXiv.org is free to all users and scientists can deposit their own content for free. By providing open access to researchers worldwide, arXiv makes science more democratic. Each year, the repository sees 150K submissions and more than 200 million downloads from all over the world. The service is hosted by Cornell University, and is financially supported by the Simons Foundation and over 230 libraries and research labs from all around the world.

Donations support arXiv.org's commitment to remaining an open access resource and technological modernization and development initiatives.
