The agency is also a referral site for CHOW, matching people in need with available food pantries. The BCUL also provides assitance with clothing, prescription cards, utility bill assistance, homeless prevention, rental assistance, and most recently on site enrollment for health insurance. The agencies broader goal is to serve more urban poor with resources for permanent housing, employment, and educational opportunities.

Our programs focus on the children, youth and families in Broome County. Center for Help- The Center for Help provides services for those who need housing, employment, food, clothing, medical supplies, rental, and utility bill assistance. The Center for Help serves approximately 600 families and individuals annually. Family Support Services- Our family support services make available many resources to aid struggling families. We provide information and referral services for families and individuals who suffer from developmental disabilities. Additionally, we offer Respite Care Reimbursement and afterschool and summer programming. This program serves 12-18 children per year in our youth programs and 20 families through our Respite Reimbursement Program. Youth Services - Our After-School Enrichment Program is offered throughout the school year and is an inclusion program available for children 5 to 13 years of age and children with special needs 5 to 21 years of age. This program serves 40-50 children during the school year. The goals of this program are to offer social and academic growth, homework help, and civic engagement opportunities and to provide constructive, physical activities for the children. Our Summer Enrichment Program is offered Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm for the months of July and August. This is also an inclusion program. This program provides fun, engaging activities as well as field trips. Meals are also provided for children who take part in the program. The summer program serves 60-65 children during the summer months. Job Training and Workforce Development WJOB—93.3 FM Radio- WJOB is a new radio station that boasts a very young and aggressive urban contemporary music format. For years, the Urban League has served Broome County and its youth populations in a variety of ways. We are extremely pleased to announce this accomplishment; we are now a licensed agency that broadcasts FM Radio to youth constituents as well as adults throughout the county. Under this program high school youth and college students can learn all facets of a multimedia and broadcasting company. The station currently hits 120,000 households and 14,000 listeners every quarter hour within the Southern Tier area. ATTAIN Technology Center -Our computer lab offers free computer and internet use to community members. For those who struggle using the computer, we offer classes that teach computer basics and fundamentals, as well as classes that teach how to use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Our Advanced Technology Training and Information Networking (ATTAIN) lab offers over 35 interactive occupational, academic, life skills, and ESL courses. Classes in ‘Digital Literacy’ and ‘Unlimited Potential’ are also available. These classes can be instructor lead or self- paced. The lab certifies roughly 400 individuals annually with technology certifications and provides open lab use to almost 400 community residents. The open lab is used for resumes, job applications, job search as well as self-paced learning for several the certifications. Pathways Program - Here at the Broome County Urban League’s Pathways Program our goal is to train, motivate and equip individuals within our communities with the tools needed to garner financial freedom and personal achievement. We offer specialized pathway courses within our curriculum; these courses and workshops are meant to enhance the individual’s knowledge and experience. This will lead them on a path to achieve professional, personal, and financial success. Since 2014 the BCUL has been successful in the area of workforce and economic development and job training. Under these programs, we have served approximately 3200 individuals and we have an 83% completion rate, meaning these individuals have obtained additional training skills, completed soft skills training and/or have received a nationally recognized advanced technology certification from out ATTAIN Program. Of those individuals we have a 79% placement rate in employment and 28% in post-secondary educational or vocational program. This 79% success rate and looking at the cost of a single person receiving benefits, saved taxpayers $42,470,000 annually. Because these individuals no longer require to be dependent on public assistance. As of 2018, 70% are still employed as we continue to follow and check in with them to ensure they overcome barriers. Entrepreneurship Programs - The BCUL also works with community partners locally the create the necessary pipeline of opportunities and resources that can support minority and women entrepreneurs and business owners of color which can help them launch and grow successful ventures. We also contract with minority-owned businesses in the community to provide them with nationally recognized advanced technology trainings through our ATTAIN Technology lab, apprentice training opportunities, business networking and professional services, media, marketing and advertising through our urban contemporary radio station 93.3 FM WJOB, that has approximately 18,000 listeners per quarter hour. Advertising opportunities include but are not limited to, business video production and print media campaigns for all media platforms and delivery systems. Additionally, we work to champion MWBE certifications, sharing information about membership advantages and the processes required to navigate enrollment.
