Mission Statement

The Waterman Center's most critical mission is to leverage engaging outdoor recreation activities to promote environmental literacy and advance stewardship of our natural areas.

About This Cause

By managing over 500 acres of nature preserves spread over six locations in the Greater Binghamton, NY area we provide free access to outdoor adventures for communities in Apalachin, Endicott, Endwell, Owego, Windsor, and the surrounding areas. Each preserve has a dedicated network of hiking trails, historic features, and informational signs. Our operations, public programs, volunteer activities, youth camps, and more are launched out of our nature interpretive center located at 403 Hilton Road in Apalachin, NY. We believe by providing youth and adults with positive, interesting, and fun outdoor experiences, we can foster environmental awareness and a commitment to conserve natural resources. We also serve as an important link in the local economy by providing working families with enhanced quality of life through recreation activities, a nature center and museum, corporate and individual volunteer opportunities, and youth programs/child care. We are honored to serve the community as a safe place to get out of the house and exercise, have fun, and find priceless serenity in a tumultuous world. While difficult to measure, our value to safeguarding and caring for our communities' mental health and well-being can not be discounted.
