Mission Statement
Since 1985, Compeer Buffalo has been providing social support in the form of friendships, to individuals (age 6 and up) who are striving for mental wellbeing. We know that friendship decreases loneliness and isolation, therefore we offer 1:1 and group friendship, social engagement activities, school-based mentoring, higher education mentoring, peer support friendship and mental health education in our community.
About This Cause
Compeer is a nonprofit organization committed to improving mental health through the power of supportive friendships. As part of a global network, Compeer provides one-to-one mentoring, peer support, and social engagement programs that connect trained volunteers with individuals experiencing mental health challenges. These relationships help reduce loneliness, foster resilience, and promote overall well-being. In addition to serving the Buffalo community, Compeer operates as the international headquarters for the Compeer model, supporting a network of 40 affiliates across the United States, Canada, England and Australia. Each affiliate implements the Compeer model to provide volunteer-based mental health support in their respective communities. As the international hub, Compeer offers training, resources, and guidance to affiliates, ensuring consistency in program delivery and best practices. Through its dual role as a local service provider and international leader in mental health mentoring, Compeer Buffalo continues to advocate for social connection as a vital component of mental wellness, expanding its impact to reach individuals in need worldwide.
