Mission Statement
The mission of the Willie “Hutch” Jones Educational and Sports Programs (dba Tre and Associates, Inc.) is to provide high quality out of school academic, athletic and cultural programs for low-income urban youth who cannot afford club fees or organization dues. Since 1984, WHJSC programs have been offered at no cost to the participating youth, operating solely on individual and corporate contributions, government grants and contracts and philanthropic foundation investments. We deliver outcomes in delinquency prevention, violence prevention, obesity prevention and academic enhancement. Our programs provide fundamental sports skills development, cultural enrichment, financial literacy, foreign language instruction, and lifetime social skills development for resilient youth throughout Western New York. We teach participants to make constructive use of leisure time and refrain from violence and other illegal behaviors.
About This Cause
Our mission is very personal to our founder, Willie “Hutch” Jones, a native of Buffalo, who had a Professional basketball career with the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and in the European Pro League, before returning to make Buffalo his adulthood home as a professional educator. Hutch had a strong desire to provide a positive service to his childhood community, because there were so many other youth that would never have an opportunity to rise above their circumstances unless they had strong positive influences and special training. Due to the location of our programs in low income neighborhoods, over 90% of our students are from families living below the poverty line.
