Mission Statement
The Synergy Health Center's mission is to transform lives through mental health, behavioral health, and substance abuse services, with particular attention to African Americans. UrbanZone, the youth arm of The Synergy Health Center, has the mission to empower this generation to live life on purpose by focusing on educational inequities that have been highlighted in our community.
About This Cause
Founded in 2013 by Valarie Cunningham, The Synergy Health Center(SHC), is a 501c(3) non-profit teaching healthcare organization dedicated to transforming lives for generations and empowering people for a lifetime. We believe the mental and behavioral health therapy and other services we provide individuals and families give them the tools they need to have a better quality of life. As a teaching agency, we work to train interns and staff to go into their communities and work to serve community members successfully in their field. Our staff are committed to delivering compassionate, personalized care to all, especially to those most in need. We are intentional in our care to all individuals with a specialty in culturally diverse services. We are dedicated to holistic care which sustains and improves the mental health and substance abuse recovery of individuals and families. UrbanZone, the youth programming arm of our organization, is a youth-driven center and is built on the principles of S.A.F.E.T.Y. and inclusion. S.A.F.E.T.Y. is an acronym for: S. Sensitivity to the culture A. Asking open-minded questions F. Finding the best in others E. Empowering all youth T. Thinking critically Y. Yield zero conflict Our free youth programs are designed to empower youth to build confidence and succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. We help youth build intentional awareness of academic, behavioral, and personal goals. To help them accomplish those goals, our curriculum focuses on mental health education, mindfulness, physical health, establishing self-assurance, resilience, social and emotional learning. With this information, youth are able to obtain the importance of their social and emotional state of being allowing for better success in their lives. Our Youth Advisory Council youth members are paid to help prepare for and assist in our programs and youth events. With support from you and other donors, we are able to break down many barriers that are in the way of our community members receiving services that lead to healthy and thriving lives. These barriers include financial cost, stigmas/stigmatizing beliefs, lack of knowledge, lack of transportation, and inequities in mental healthcare. We are able to break down these barriers in our community due to donations from people like you, public grants, and partnering with other community organizations. We help to break these barriers through our intentional building location close to public transportation and by providing community events free of cost, educational events and symposiums, youth programs and events free of cost, and culturally responsive mental health and substance abuse therapy. While we are not yet able to provide free mental health and substance abuse therapy services, we are able to accept Medicaid insurance and offer an income-based fee scale. We also partner with other community organizations that work with us to fund their program members' services. We are grateful for your donation which will help us continue our mission. You, along with our partners, donors, and grant foundations, help us bring light and hope to our community, transforming lives for generations, and empowering people for a lifetime.
