Mission Statement

The Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington (JCCCW) serves as a gathering place for people to celebrate and share Japanese and Japanese American art, culture and history.

About This Cause

The Nikkei Heritage Association of Washington (NHAW) was formed in the fall of 2002 by a small group of people who shared a decades-long dream: to create and provide a place where Japanese heritage, culture and community events could be celebrated and shared. In 2009, NHAW and the Seattle Japanese Language School (JLS), built by Issei (first generation Japanese immigrant) pioneers in 1913 merged to form a single entity. The common goal was simple: to carry on the legacy of the Issei and later the Nisei (2nd generation Japanese Americans), by preserving and expanding the cultural education center for current and future generations. Since then, NHAW has conducted business as the Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington and has become a bustling and vibrant gathering place with ongoing programs, events and activities. In addition to ongoing Japanese language classes for children and adults, we host two major public events each year, Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day) in the Spring and Bunka no HI (Cultura Day) in the Fall. Community and volunteer support help to maintain the facility and programs offered by the JCCCW. Contributions in support of our efforts are, as always greatly appreciated and needed.
