About This Cause
The Fraser Valley Recreation Foundation was incorporated as a Colorado non-profit corporation in March 27, 2003. Since 2007, the Foundation has secured over $5 million for recreational projects, including the Grand Park Community Recreation Center, Icebox Ice Rink, Historic Playground, IceBox Refrigeration and various smaller projects. Fundraising for these projects have included grants and donations from the Lennox Foundation, Lored Foundation, El Pomar, Gates Foundation, Boettcher Foundation, Great Outdoors Colorado, Sprout Fund, Grand Foundation, local municipalities, Grand County and many others. The Foundation has also received grants and donations from private donors over the years to purchase gymnastics equipment, re-roof the FVMRD program building, initiate the Peak Swim Team, and purchase bike helmets and skateboarding safety pads. The Foundation was instrumental in obtaining the community support necessary to initiate four Community Enhancement Projects that were completed in 2008 – 2010. The community enhancement projects included a new irrigation system on the original 18 holes at Pole Creek Golf Club, a new clubhouse at Pole Creek Golf Club, the Grand Park Community Recreation Center (GPCRC), and the Icebox Ice Rink and support building at the Fraser Valley Sports Complex. The Foundation has prioritized the projects needed for the FVMRD, researched funding sources for such projects, and submitted grants/received funds for projects. The Foundation also administers the Guardian Angel Scholarship Fund to provide recreation opportunities for Winter Park and Fraser Valley children and families. This fund provides scholarships to reduce or waive certain fees or charges for residents who would otherwise be unable to participate in FMVRD programs due to economic hardship. The monies for this program are raised through advertisements in the FVMRD Activity Guides.
