Mission Statement
Renewing the Countryside empowers people and communities to advance ideas and efforts that contribute to economic, social, and environmental wealth in rural places. The nonprofit organization accomplishes these goals by sharing stories of rural renewal, building awareness and support for sustainable endeavors, connecting people interested in sustainable rural development to each other, providing practical assistance and networking opportunities for those working to improve rural America, and fostering connections between urban and rural people.
About This Cause
Our goals are: To cultivate change in rural places that enhances economic, social environmental wealth. To strengthen productive, equitable linkages between urban and rural places and grow a better understanding of our interdependence. Our key area of work fit into three buckets: - working landscapes - local foods - rural places Within these buckets, we are involved in an array of projects and initiatives that range from building regional capacity to support beginning farmers access farmland, to incubating a Slow Money network, to empowering rural women to be change makers in their communities. We take an ecosystem approach to advancing our mission, working within the understanding of connections, leverage points, and the power of collaboration. We do this by being: Animateurs - Supporting individuals and communities in turning ideas into change - Making space for new conversations and collaborations Boundary Crossers building relationships: - Between nonprofit, private, government & education sectors - Between rural, urban and suburban - Between business, agriculture, arts, the environment, education, and tourism - Between those with abundant wealth and those without Innovative - being flexible, responsive, nimble, creative, and willing to take risks Collaborative - Authentically engaging partners - Creating spaces for co-creation, co-ownership, shared power - Sharing resources
