About This Cause
THA, Inc., the 501(c)(3) segment of the Topeka Housing Authority (THA), is dedicated to building relationships, securing private financial contributions to support residents of public and Section 8 housing and strengthening the Topeka Housing Authority. THA, Inc. is dedicated to community improvement and has implemented several place-based initiatives in the past eight years, including a pre-school and a primary care clinic. With a mission to provide safe, decent, affordable housing to extremely low-income families and facilitate success in their lives, THA has developed cross sector collaborations for projects to improve the community. Secure housing is the foundation for supporting vulnerable populations and is a key factor in resolving health, substance use disorder and employment challenges. THA, Inc. is the lead organization in the Pine Ridge Partnership, an organization of Topeka community partners who develop and support initiatives to serve THA families. The Partnership is designed to enhance the success of the families in the Pine Ridge Community and Partnership programs address the social determinants of health and improve the community by delivering placed-based and two-generational programs and services in public housing communities. Partnership programs and services, including, education and literacy, childhood experiences, physical environments, healthy behaviors and access to health services, are all key functions of the THA, Inc. work and mission. All grant funds and proceeds from the tournament will be used to support the Pine Ridge Family Health Center primary and urgent care clinic, including medical supplies and equipment. The Pine Ridge Family Health Center (PRFHC) is one of the many THA, Inc., programs and initiatives which utilize community collaborations, partnerships and health care leaders to address the social determinants of health throughout the life cycle, beginning with pre-school children. With a goal to improve residents’ health indicators and contribute to a culture of health in the public housing and Section 8 communities, the Pine Ridge Partnership services, including the PRFHC, are all placed-based, providing improved access to services. The PRFHC is a cutting-edge, health care facility and the location within a public housing community is an innovative approach to healthcare access. While other Public Housing Authorities contract with Federally Qualified Health Centers for resident healthcare services, THA brings health care to the community and manages the only known primary care clinic in the nation housed within a public housing community. Services provided through the clinic have resulted in improved health outcomes for public housing and Section 8 residents, as well as other uninsured or under-insured community residents. The clinic NP serves as the “school nurse” for the Pine Ridge Prep students, offering immunizations and wellness examinations.
